LawScribe Partners with Pro Bono Net; Supports Access to Justice
Summary: When Pro Bono Net, a national nonprofit that works to increase access to justice, ran into a need for large-scale data entry, LawScribe stepped in to help.
Millions of people face legal problems every year without the means to hire an attorney, including such potentially devastating issues as foreclosure, eviction, domestic violence, child custody disputes and denial of benefits. Pro Bono Net partners with legal organizations to promote collaboration and maximize their impact; connects lawyers with resources to increase pro bono involvement via its www.Probono.net site for attorneys; and provides legal aid referrals, self-help tools and information about legal rights directly to the public via its www.LawHelp.org site.
Pro Bono Net had a recurring need for a large amount of data entry for one of its programs, but did not have the budget flexibility to pay for outsourcing this time-consuming work. After meeting with Pro Bono Net staff at a conference and learning about their needs, LawScribe offered to provide services at no charge in support of Pro Bono Net’s mission. In exchange, LawScribe was designated a corporate sponsor of Pro Bono Net, joining other firms in the legal market that support the 10-year-old organization and its goal of increasing the availability of high-quality, free legal assistance.
When the need for data entry arises, Pro Bono Net sends files to LawScribe. The work is then completed overseas in a timely manner under the supervision of LawScribe management.
For example, in 2009 Pro Bono Net’s pro bono practice management service for law firms, Pro Bono Manager, had 7,000 units of data input with an average cycle time of five minutes per unit. Pro Bono Net needed to accomplish the work quickly while maintaining high quality.
Had Pro Bono Net hired a consultant to handle this work, the cost to the nonprofit could have been anywhere between $6,000 and $17,500. Working with LawScribe, Pro Bono Net was able to satisfy its law firm customers while incurring no additional costs.
“LawScribe has been extremely easy to work with, and the work is of very high quality,” said Adam Licht, Pro Bono Net’s Director of Product Management.
LawScribe’s generosity allows Pro Bono Net to concentrate on activities that help those in need, whether developing new sites to address emergent areas, such as the foreclosure crisis and the legal needs of military veterans, or expanding the use of new tools, such as LawHelp Interactive, an online legal document assembly service for those without lawyers.
“LawScribe is committed to being at the forefront of innovative initiatives across the LPO industry,” said President & CEO Kunoor Chopra. “Our involvement with Pro Bono Net is merely an extension of these initiatives.”
